Application of thermochromic pigment in daily life
Thermochromic pigments, are materials that change color with changes in temperature. This pigment contains special chemicals that undergo a chemical reaction or physical change at a specific temperature that causes the pigment to change color. Thermochromic pigments are used in a wide range of products, including inks, coatings, plastics, and textiles, to create temperature-sensitive items such as temperature-sensing labels, toys, clothing, packaging materials, and safety markings.
Depending on the type of color change, thermochromic pigments can be divided into:
● Colored to colorless: These pigments change from colored to colorless when the temperature rises to the target range, and return to colored when cooled.
● Colorless to Colored: These pigments change from colorless to colored when the temperature rises to the target range, and return to colorless when cooled.
● Colored to colored: Changes from one color to another when the temperature rises to the target range, and returns to its original color when cooled.
Thermochromic pigments can also be divided into:
● Reversible thermochromic pigments: based on their reversibility of discoloration: these pigments change color when the temperature rises to the target range and return to their original color when cooled, and are widely used in applications that require repeated discoloration.
● Irreversible thermochromic pigments: these pigments permanently change color at specific temperatures, and are often used in applications such as indicating temperature exposure that should not be exceeded.
Application of Thermochromic Pigments
● Temperature indicators: Products such as thermometers, temperature-sensing labels, baby spoons, and temperature indicators on food packaging provide a simple, instant visual indication of temperature changes through color changes.
● Security Markings: For anti-counterfeiting and security markings, tamper-evident packaging and secure printing, such as security labels on certificates, currencies and branded products.
● Novelty items, such as mood rings, color-changing mugs, and toys, are coated with a thermochromic coating that changes color when the temperature changes, adding interest.
● Fashion & Design: Thermochromic pigments for clothing and footwear make clothes look beautiful and functional in different colors at different temperatures.
● Industrial & Electronics: Used in temperature-sensitive electronic devices and industrial materials to monitor and indicate temperature changes.
